Welcome to Sunday Funday, folks. This weekend was eventful and HOT. Right on schedule the Midwest is experiencing what they call a "heat dome" that is causing ridiculous temperatures, heat indexes, and humidity. We wanted to stay inside almost all weekend so what better way to do so than have it focused on food and fun ('fun' = drinking)?Friday afternoon we also realized that our brand new air conditioner from our brand new house was broken. It was hovering around 78 degrees in our house by Friday night which was awesome. While we debated calling the repair man at 9pm we had a few drinks on the front porch. I had some limes that needed to be used so I whipped up some Moscow Mules, which are a summer favorite. I am pretty sure it is also a big favorite because I get to use the fun copper glasses, but thats besides the point...or the entire point not really sure yet.We finished up the weekend at the pool with my sister her husband and kids all while celebrating "National Tequila Day". We 'celebrated' the best way we know how by drinking some Kirland Easy Pour margaritas that I regularly pick up from Costco (WITH clear ice!). I didn't snag a picture of that...well...because...margaritas.

When we moved into this house last August we had decided that one of our first large projects would be installing a patio in our back yard. When you build a home through a builder they provide you with binders upon binders of options that you can choose from. For people like me this can be somewhat of a nightmare (I'm a Libra - decisions take forever) but luckily Tim and I knew the two big options we wanted to invest in: a 3rd bay in the garage and a full-sized basement. While our basement is unfinished (a future project) it changes the elevation of the house quite drastically. When the house was completed our builder provided us with the most pathetic looking deck purely for access reasons (From the ground into our home is probably a 2 1/2 -3 foot drop)...it was a 4'x4' deck off of the back of your house that could only hold our Weber Grill. Here is a (iPhone) picture of the deck the a few weeks after moving in (while painting our kitchen). We quickly realized that this would be high on the to-do list. Not only was it not visually pleasing but we wanted to use our back yard as a functional space where we could easily go in and out and enjoy the back yard (and more importantly have a place to host our annual 4th of July Party). |
Meet Pepper. This 5 1/2 year old dog came into our lives right as I was graduating college. I got a phone call from Tim with a smile in his voice, "A dog stopped at boss' house and had puppies...do you want one?" He sent me a photo with a few to pick from. We believe the mother was a Labrador and was actually pregnant by two different male dogs (YUP that's a thing): a pitbull & a chow. We ended up picking the "runt" of the litter, the pit-mix, and ended up keeping her name because it fit her too well - Pepper. |
